The third depicts a portrait of a kabuki actor, role: Shino Inuzuka, plant: Red knotweed, play: Hakkenden Uwasa no Takadono. The fourth: Role: Yorikane Ashikaga Takao no momiji, plant: Japanese Maple, character suggested by plant: The courtesan Takao, play: Probably Date kurabe Okuni kabuki. Each is inscribed with Calligraphy in the print. Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school. The range of Kuniyoshis subjects included many genres: landscapes, beautiful women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals.
