Description

After Ernest Meissonier, French, 1815 to 1891, color lithograph on paper. After the 1862 painting titled Napoleon I in 1814. The original is now in the collection of the Walters Art Museum. The piece depicts Napoleon Bonaparte on horseback in landscape scenery. Signed and dated in plate in the lower right. Matted and framed. Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier was a French academic painter and sculptor. He became famous for his depictions of Napoleon and his military sieges and manoeuvres in paintings acclaimed both for the artists mastery of fine detail and his assiduous craftsmanship.
