Published by P. A. Egorov, St. Petersburg, 1883. Ivan Andreyevich Krylov, 1769 to 1844, is a Russian best known fabulist. Formerly a dramatist and journalist, he only discovered his true genre at the age of 40. While many of his earlier fables were loosely based on Aesops and La Fontaines, later fables were original works, often with a satirical bent.
