He used Iranian forms in modern art and was one of the pioneers of the Saqqakhaneh movement. Ghandriz is best known for his abstract paintings of mythical creatures. He was drawn to the progressive realist paintings of Ilya Repin and Ivan Aivazovsky while still in high school. Later, he was introduced to European modernism and incorporated the figurative techniques of the Old Masters to create his own semi-abstract style. He is one of the founders of the Saqqakhaneh school and known for his use of flat, bright, and colorful planes, smooth lines, and mythological subjects.
