Lot 0168: RARE ANTIQUE RUSSIAN PORCELAIN PLATES SAFRONOV FACTORY

41 reviews

A lot of three rare antique Imperial Russian porcelain plates by the Safronov Factory, the first half of the 19th century. Each plate has a relief beaded rim. Two plates are designed in the same style, hand painted with medallions depicting swans and floral motifs against a pale blue ground. Both plates are marked on the underside. The third plate is richly gilded and painted with gold and grisaille motifs to the bright celestial blue border. Circa 1830. Note: The private porcelain factory was founded by Anton Trofimovich Safronov in 1814. The factory existed until the 1850s, but was eventually absorbed by more powerful competitors in the porcelain industry - at first it was leased, and then it was bought by S. T. Kuznetsov (father of M. S. Kuznetsov), who moved it to Dulevo. The products were distinguished by their high quality, were in no way inferior to the best works of the Gardner factory and were universally recognized. The factory produced porcelain dishes and services, decorative vases, sculptures. Safronovs factory was considered one of the best factories in Gzhel. Russian Porcelain Ware Pieces, Decorative Antiques And Collectibles.
